To commemorate World National Immunisation Week against Polio, some nurses have been reaching out to the local population in some parts of Cameroon to vaccinate children.
The Polio vaccine is known to be given to children from the age of 0-5 years old. But since the COVID-19 health crisis came into place and the idea of vaccines being dangerous,
some citizens have been skeptical about taking anything vaccine because of the conspiracy theorist they have heard about the virus and the vaccine.
As nurses went out to perform their duty during World Immunisation Week, some experience horrible situations.
“We almost got beaten by some men thinking that we nurses are out to give Corona vaccine,” Itoe Theresia Mesoe said.
From the World Health organization, Immunization can protect against 25 different infectious agents or diseases from infancy to old age, including diphtheria, measles, pertussis, polio, tetanus, and COVID-19.
World Immunisation Week is celebrated every last week of the month of April, it is aimed at promoting the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against diseases.
