Marriage Tips For Single Ladies

Marriage is a life long commitment and can be very delicate and frustrating if handled casually and without preparation.

Here are some tips on preparing for marriage as a single lady;

Visualize yourself married

The first marriage tip for a single lady is,  picture yourself as a married person.

This has been proven to be one of the most effective ways of fostering success in marriage.

Some times it’s easy to forget your marital status.

Being married requires some fundamental shifts in how you think about yourself, and it will be helpful if you prepare for these shifts mentally beforehand.

 Deciding on your priorities.

Before you get into marriage, you need to be clear on what you expect in the relationship.

One of the greatest challenges in marriage is prioritizing things like work, hobbies, and spending time with friends over your spouse.

In order to successfully navigate these trade-offs, it’s important that both partners are on the same page about their priorities.

Develop patience

Another very important aspect single ladies should note is patience.

If you want your marriage to be successful, you have to learn how to wait.

Have you ever heard that patience is a virtue? Well, it’s true and it applies in every aspect of life, including relationships.

The more patient and understanding you are with your spouse, friends, and family members, even yourself, the more easily things will flow when it comes to action.

The key is not being passive or defensive but proactive and confident.

Accept what you can’t change

Your partner might have some irritating habits, or your kids may drive you crazy sometimes, but you won’t be able to change these aspects of their personalities.

What you can do is accept them, and adjust accordingly.

Sometimes it’s okay not to fix what isn’t broken.

Think about kids

If you want kids, think about how you’ll raise them.

Even if you’re not married yet, make sure you’re on board with your boyfriend or girlfriend.

For example, are you willing to raise them as vegans? Do you believe in spanking?

Think through these kinds of issues now so when it comes time for marriage, your views will be aligned.

Don’t leave things up in the air! That makes divorce more likely.

Know when it’s right

Many single ladies feel like they are ready to get married, even though there are still things that need work.

You may not be perfect or even close, but if you really feel like it’s time, you don’t have to wait until every detail is in place.

Remember that marriage isn’t about perfect, it’s about two imperfect people making an attempt at having a great life together.

Give God control of your heart

When we’re single, it can feel like God has abandoned us in our pursuit of love and marriage.

But in truth, God has been preparing us for our future spouses.

He wants you to guard your heart and soul through faith in him.

Scripture says, guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life (Proverbs 4:23).

Seek counsel from Christian friends who are married or widowed; ask them about how they preserved their hearts during their single years.

Have financial goals together

As a tip for a single lady, before your nuptials even take place, you should make sure that you and your partner have been discussing important financial goals.

You’ll want to discuss long-term goals such as buying a house or planning for retirement.

Even short-term goals, like going on vacation or taking care of household expenses are good things to talk about when starting out in your marriage.

Keep learning together

Couples who learn new things together tend to be happier and more satisfied in their marriage.

Learn something new as a couple, even if it’s just something small, like playing cribbage.

It can help you form memories that stick with you forever and make your bond stronger.

Even if you already have children, one way to stay connected is by taking classes together!

If one of you learns how to speak Spanish and has always wanted to learn guitar, encourage him or her to teach you those skills.

Allow time together

Another very important marriage tip for the single ladies is giving space.

Even though some couples spend every waking moment together, it’s healthy to give each other space.

Instead of scheduling your entire life around one another and spending every minute together, set some time aside where you can each enjoy your own interests separately.

Then you’ll both look forward to coming back together again.

Take time each day or evening before bed (or at least on weekends) just for yourselves whether that means reading a book, watching television, or doing something else alone will be entirely up to you.
