What We Do

Faithfully Magazine is an ethnically-inclusive news and lifestyle publication that leans toward Christian communities of color. We center on issues, conversations, and events Christians of color say are important to their faith and to their lives. We pride ourselves on our ecumenical approach as a “conscious” Christian magazine for the times. We serve our audience via this website, a quarterly magazine, and newsletter.

Read more about our mission, ethos, and diverse readership on our About Us page.

What We Publish

We love insightful Q&As with influencers in any field, especially when there is a compelling Christian angle. In addition to Q&As, we publish inspiring features on a variety of subjects, including ministry leaders, musicians, authors, etc. Another important aspect of Faithfully Magazine is our cultural, social, and political commentary/columns, with a faith angle, of course.

We are also open to re-publishing well-written blog posts, original devotionals, poetry, original photo essays, and more. In general, it’s best to pitch your idea to us first, instead of sending a completed article or work.

What We Do Not Publish

We embrace nuanced articles and commentary that grapple with the diversity of Christian thought on matters related to sexuality, relationships, justice, and life (abortion, the death penalty, euthanasia, etc.). We do not, however, publish content or advertisements that promote ethics, activities or values we as an organization believe conflict with a traditional/orthodox Christian worldview. The writers who work with us may not necessarily share the organization’s editorial and advertising position.

If you have specific questions about whether your pitch is a match for our readership, contact us via the email address listed below.

Our Specific Content Needs

In general, we welcome pitches for the following:

  • Profiles on interesting people, places, ideas, organizations, events, experiences, etc. on a city, national or global level
  • Features or reports on national or global current events/issues
  • Reviews of books, musics, movies, etc.
  • Q&As with notable figures
  • Commentary and analyses on education, incarceration, family, church life, theology, politics, etc.
  • Travel and leisure experiences and how-tos
  • Money and career advice
  • Wellness articles about health, fitness, food, relationships, etc.
  • Articles on historical topics tied to Christianity or short profiles on historical Christian figures
  • First-person faith accounts (in some cases, these must be verifiable through others and/or documentation)

Guidelines

Submissions must be well-written, informative, and engaging and free of plagiarism and typographical errors. If your work has been published elsewhere, let us know. We generally welcome content that is at least 300 words and no more than 2,500 words, but will make exceptions for some pitches.

Those interested in submitting content must provide clips/links of 2-3 published works. If you are an interested writer who has not previously been published, you must convincingly explain the who, what, and why of your pitch. Those providing first-person testimonies must provide verification and/or contact information for others who can verify your story.

Although writers should self-edit submissions, all accepted content will be edited for clarity, accuracy, and SEO-friendly headlines, if necessary. Writers must include URLs for sources where possible, and provide the names, publication titles, programs, etc. cited in article submissions.

Compensation

Faithfully Magazine does not pay for submissions at this time. However, by working with us as contributors, you gain potential access to interview leading figures and influencers in U.S. Christianity, opportunities to cover live events, access to books, music, and other review materials (that you keep), and your byline in the only intentionally ethnically-diverse and ecumenical Christian publication that centers on believers of color. Most of all, you gain the opportunity to get in on the ground level of a transformative and groundbreaking publication that people are excited about.

The Fine Print

By submitting text, photos, videos and other media and materials to Faithfully Magazine (www.faithfullymagazine.com), you agree that the content does not infringe on or violate someone else’s rights or otherwise violates the law.

By submitting articles, event notices, press releases, and other materials to Faithfully Magazine, you agree to the Content Submission Agreement.

How to Submit

Send your pitches or tips to contact @ faithfullymagazine.com. If you have a complete story, put it in a Google document and share it with faithfullymagazine @ gmail.com and include Write or Comment access.

It is not guaranteed that submissions or pitches will be accepted, but Faithfully Magazine will do its best to send a response if one is required. In some cases, submissions and/or pitches that do not fit the editorial scope of the publication or are explicitly promotional will be referred to our Media Kit.

Thank you for your interest. We look forward to working with you!

Join The Team

We are seeking: Content Creators, Columnists, Audio Producers, Graphic Designers, Web Programmers, Business Development Leads, and More.

These are excellent opportunities for Christian bloggers, writers, and recent (or not-so-recent) journalism grads seeking greater exposure for their work.

Faithfully Magazine seeks volunteer Staff Writers and Content Contributors to write on various topics on a regular basis and Columnists to contribute“Inspiration” op-eds/essays or devotional-type columns at least once a month. Staff Writers and select Content Contributors receive a publication email account and are included on our Staff page. The positions below describe what we’re looking for. Note: These are not opportunities for promoters or content creation companies. See our Media Kit for sponsored and promotional options.

Staff Writers: Staff Writers and Content Contributors write on a consistent basis for the website and, as the opportunity arises, for the quarterly magazine. Faithfully Magazine welcomes writers who can contribute to a single subject (e.g., entertainment/culture, wellness, education, tech, etc.). We also welcome generalists–writers who can craft articles on a variety of topics, from news/current events and reviews to profiles and how-to pieces. All writers, of course, must maintain a Christian perspective in their work. If you have the passion, skills, and consistency, we are willing to work with you.

Books Contributors: Books Contributors get theirs hands on the latest books before everyone else and the scoop direct from the authors. Those in this role are avid readers with a taste for books by Christian authors who write on a variety of subjects (memoirs, self-help, theology, inspiration, historical, fiction, etc.); and are also interested in writing about books beyond Christian genres that remain relevant to the Faithfully Magazine community. Books Contributors write succinct summaries, pose thoughtful questions for authors, and should not need a lot of hands-on editing. In addition to writing reviews, summaries, and listicles (i.e.,books to readbooks on our radar, etc.) and conducting author interviews, Books Contributors are encouraged to take creative approaches and also consider long-form articles to provide a variety of content for readers who have a keen interest in Books.

Music Contributors: There is a lot of good music out there being created both by talented Christian artists in various genres who don’t always get the shine they deserve and by artists whose names show up everywhere. If you can think of artists in both categories, love music and can craft well-written and honest music and concert reviews, op-eds, or articles/features and the best questions for potential artist Q&As, we want to hear from you. We welcome Music Contributors with eclectic tastes, a professional attitude, and a passion for writing (not just about artists you like). See some of our Music coverage here. If you are an artist yourself and really eager to promote your own work, this role is not for you.

Do This If interested: Send an email with a brief bio about yourself, interests, and relevant work and experience along with links to, or attachments of, 2-3 previously published articles and your most relevant social media profiles. In some cases, applicants will be asked to provide a reference. Email us at contact @ faithfullymagazine.com.

Audio Producers: Assist us with recording, editing, and distributing podcasts. Commission opportunities are project-based. Tell us about yourself, expertise, and interests and send work samples via the email address on this page.

Graphic Designers: We occasionally need logo updates, ad designs, merch graphics, and more. Commission opportunities are project-based. If interested, tell us about yourself, interests, and experience (along with work samples) via the email address on this page.

Web Programmers: We are looking for tech heads to help us with new page launches, optimizing the web experience, and more. Send us an email with details about yourself, your work (including examples/client work), interests, and a brief assessment of this website via the email address on this page.

Business Development Lead: Connect our growing diverse, active, and engaged readership with products and services that meet their needs and earn a commission. Faithfully Magazine is seeking a creative, outgoing, and enterprising person to join our team as a Business Development Lead. This is a part-time voluntary position that includes commission based on acquiring and finalizing ad sales over the phone and via email. Faithfully Magazine is seeking a business-minded representative who is familiar with online and print ad sales processes, or who can quickly adapt to these processes. The right person for this role must be determined and have a dogged personality to persuade prospective ad partners of the value of promoting their products, clients, or services via Faithfully Magazine’s website, magazine, newsletter, and social networks. Job Requirements:

  • Set and surpass sales goals with advertising campaigns
  • Scout out leads and manage advertising inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Create weekly sales report including calls, emails, and appointments, as well as pending sales
  • Assist with asset management for print and digital/online ad partners
  • Create proposals (ad packages) and recommendations for prospective clients
  • Maintain client relationships with new and existing ad partners

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must be able to work under Faithfully Magazine’s ethos and “what we publish” guidelines
  • Must have at least 1 year of related sales experience
  • Must have excellent verbal/written communication skills and pleasant business etiquette
  • Must be detail-oriented, well-organized and able to excel under pressure
  • Must have knowledge of, or know how to access regulations and guidelines for web/digital and print advertising
  • Must have a computer with high speed internet and reliable phone service

Send a resume, references (not required), and a few paragraphs introducing yourself, your experience, and why you would be a great fit for the Business Development Lead to contact @ faithfullymagazine.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
